Swimming and Triathlon

Sporting Success
Congratulations to our 5 students Ben & Ashton Hampton, Jacob Turner, Maddy George, & Harri Silcock, who participated in the challenging Canterbury Primary Schools' Triathlon on Wednesday. Ben, Maddy and Jacob finished in the top 22nd, 18th & 17th. Jacob finished 17th out of 122 competitors and both him and Ben were less than 4 minutes behind the winners! The competitors wore transponders this year which meant accurate timing at different stages of the race could be made.  The recording makes for interesting reading and the athletes will know exactly where their strengths and weaknesses are.
Vist the Canterbury website (there is a link on this blog) and look under results, 2014 triathlon. Very cool!

4 students have been invited to the Canterbury Swimming Championships in April - Sarah Calley, Tom Davidson, Ben Hampton & Abbey Mitchell. We wish them well. They have also been invited to an additional North Canterbury event next Monday, where they compete against their NC Counterparts from the Pegasus, Kowai and Hurunui Zones.

Cricket - there is a carnival for our students to play in. We have entered a team but need a few more players. If your child is keen please contact Annabel:      annabel.wilson@xtra.co.nz

Water Safety
Last week rooms 7 -10 experienced floating in lifejackets in their clothes in cold water for a period of time. It was a challenging activity given the length of time they had to be in the water with clothes and trading water. The NZ Water Safety Council are saying how important it is for our children to learn to survive in cold water so we appreciated the opportunity to use life jackets.
