Cross country postponed until Thursday 11am
at 891 Mt Thomas Road.
The course looks stunning this morning,
but the wind chill factor makes it potentially unsafe for our students.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Thursday.
If you can assist with the event - marshalling, recording etc
please contact Annabel at annabel.wilson@xtra.co.nz or through your class teacher.

Cross country week - and the weather. Rugby courses info.

Cross Country
Is on for tomorrow, Tuesday 28th May. The weather is looking marginal but quite possibly will be dry; it will certainly be cold.
If it is postponed it will be to the Thursday 30th  at the same time, not Wed. as previously indicated.
Our priority is keeping the children safe and healthy, so if the weather is cold we will make changes to the programme. (Races will start from 11am)
It is likely that we will hold the years ¾ race as soon as possible (11am) and then bus them back to School. Thank you for the offers of help.
If you are able to assist on the day please see Annabel at the course at 10.30am.
We will place a sign at the School gate indicating any changes to the event.
Please send your children to School with warm clothing, jacket, hat and gloves as well as their other gear. They will run in their shorts and tee shirt (a polyprop top underneath is a good option, especially for the younger students).
There is no water at the venue so students must have a named bottle of water with them.

Rugby Course offered

We (The Rugby Union)  can run some "Catch up " Small Blacks courses for Primary schools to ensure all Coaches of Primary school rugby  are accredited .

The Courses will be held as follows

  1. Tuesday  4TH June  at 3 : 45pm @ Halswell School
  2. Thursday 6th June at  4:30pm @ North Canterbury Sports Trust House , Edward St , Rangiora.
PLEASE NOTE .   A) Start times are different
                              B) These courses are for ANY person who is coaching a primary school rugby team in 2013 who               has not yet attended a course in 2013. This is especially important for teams playing in weekly/fortnightly competitions and Zone tournaments and games later in the year .

Can you please ensure this message is circulated to ALL primary schools in Canterbury .

Thanks for your great support .

Cheers

Please see the notice on the Cross Country page for more details.

Practice
There is an opportunity for the students to visit the course on
Sunday 26th May from 2 – 4pm only.

Access to the course is by the driveway of the Allison Family at “Lyddington”
  891 Mt Thomas Road.

Both Farms are working farms and therefore NO DOGS are allowed. Please show respect for the owners and keep to the areas indicated. Drive slowly up the driveway driving straight ahead into the paddock at the top or parking on the left prior to the paddock.

A team of students had a lot of fun at the Yrs 4 - 6 Rugby Fun Day in Christchurch last week, as did our wonderfully supportive parents.

Top 20 placings at Duathlon

Congratulations to Jacob and Harri who gained a 12th and 13th place at the Canterbury Duathlon yesterday. This is a fantastic achievement, especially when you see 128 competitors in that grade!

Did you read the article in The Press recently about successful business women playing team sports.
In a study it was discovered that playing a team sport had prepared women ( and men would be the same in my opinion) for the world of business. Not only did they gain all those skills of working in a team and having a positive attitude to physical activity but they also learned HOW TO LOSE.
(Not that they liked it!)
The women surveyed said that they were able to deal successfully with knock backs and that losing didn't deflate them instead it made them think about what they needed to do to win the next time. In other words losing taught them how to make themselves more skilled, more knowledgable, and certainly more determined!
MUSIC TO MY EARS and nothing surprising. Playing sport teaches us life skills!

Good luck to the Rugby Team at their Fun Day.

Watch this space for an update on the School Cross Country and a possible pre-visit to the course.
