Success at Canterbury Events and upcoming events

Friday night basketball registration is open.
Winter sports tournaments occur in week 3 of next term, so we have this week to organise teams and 2 weeks for practising after the holidays. Please click onto the pages to the right for more information. Below that are the links to the North Canterbury and Canterbury Sports web sites.
Have a wonderful break with families. Hopefully you are get up to play in some snow! Good luck to all those who are playing representative sport.

Saskia Lane has been successful in her application to be this year's team captain of the Canterbury Cross Country team (80 runners). This is a real honour. Saskia, we know they have made a great choice and wish you continued success.

Fernside participated in 2 Canterbury events last week - and with success!

On Tuesday, 10 year 7/8 boys played in the indoor tournament at Pioneer Stadium. After a muddled first game the team settled down to a game plan that made the most of the modified foul rules. Although we finished second in our pool after losing 2 games, we made it to the semi finals where we met Kaiapoi North. To everyone's surprise we won by an astonishing 10 point margin. The boys played intelligent basketball and worked hard to produce a spot in the finals against Sacred College. Their team had impressed throughout the tournament with their shooting skills and huge adult support crew.
But Fernside were not to be taken lightly, and we certainly kept them on tenderhooks right to the last second when we were  1point behind and had won possession of the ball.
Alas, time ran out, and we came second! A brilliant effort by a fine group of Fernside representatives.
Thanks to Rosie Chalmers who was our referee for the day.
Thanks to our wonderful parents, Jackie, Rachel, Cath and Denise.

The next day saw Saskia Lane and Imogen Eglesfield compete in the gruelling Primary verse Intermediate School race. Each race saw 40 fine runners compete for 10 places in the Canterbury teams. These 2 girls were amazing! They passed many runners who had previously beat them, and showed all those attributes we value at Fernside School. Immy was placed an incredible 14th and Saskia again has worked her way into the team in 9th place!
Congratulations to you both. Saskia, we are thrilled with your success and look forward to supporting you in your lead up to the inter-provincials in Wellington.
